Charissa Verdoorn, Outreach & Policy Fellow

As Outreach & Policy Fellow, Charissa builds MNIPL’s interfaith climate justice network by recruiting volunteers, planning outreach events, and helping congregations join the Climate Justice Congregation program. Her goal is to organize and equip MNIPL congregations to get involved in the climate movement and advocate for policy that builds a just and sustainable world. She is also the primary liaison between MNIPL and the 100% Campaign, a coalition focused on getting Minnesota to 100% clean energy by 2050.

Charissa graduated from North Park University in Chicago, IL with a degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish. She began teaching fourth grade at a Spanish Immersion school in Minnesota for three years. In 2016, an opportunity came to move to Cali, Colombia and teach sixth grade English Literature. She loved living abroad, speaking Spanish and being immersed in the culture; however, her passion for social justice brought her back to Minnesota in 2018, where she worked as a field organizer with the DFL Coordinated Campaign during the midterm election. Charissa is a member and volunteer youth mentor at First Covenant Church of St. Paul. She’s excited to combine her faith with her passion for climate, racial, and economic justice. Outside of her work, Charissa enjoys spending time with her husband and cat, traveling, reading, eating pretzels of all varieties, and hiking—preferably in mountains!
