Our Current Interns
Alena Thomas
I am a second-year student from Pembroke, North Carolina pursuing a major in Business Administration and a double minor in Data Science and American Indian and Indigenous Studies. At UNC I dedicate myself to the Carolina Indian Circle, a non-profit that assists and supports Indigenous students on campus where I serve as powwow co-chair. I am currently the treasurer and vice-president of Alpha Pi Omega, an Indigenous greek letter organization. My background as an Indigenous student shapes my ambitions and values. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and analyzing movies with friends.
Alexandra Newmark
I am a first-year scholar from Boone, North Carolina, pursuing a major in Mathematics and a minor in Classics. Outside of the classroom, I am a member of oSTEM, an organization that works to advocate for LGBTQ+ students in STEM. I am also a member of the Crochet Club. Additionally, I practice two styles of Karate, including American Freestyle, in which I am an Assistant Instructor. In my spare time, I enjoy reading a good book and spending time outdoors.
Anisha Musti
I am a first-year scholar from New York pursuing a double major in Business Administration and Computer Science. I founded a quantum computing startup, Q-munity, acquired this year by Resonance Holdings. I currently serve as a Senior Product Lead there. My work in quantum led to me speaking at over 60 conferences, including The Economist and Evoke. Amongst my research endeavors are a fellowship at Google X, co-authoring the first student-focused quantum textbook, and publishing papers at NYU and Brookhaven Lab. In my free time, I enjoy watching soccer and basketball, attending my Chi Omega sorority events, and traveling.
Atef Mohamed
I am a first-year scholar from Egypt pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Information Science. Outside of the classroom, I play basketball, do rock climbing, and participate in the Arabic Debate Club. I’m passionate about Tech and Design and like to work on building projects or products that solve problems in the communities I’m part of.
Varun Varadarajan
I am a first-year scholar from Wilmington, North Carolina pursuing a major in Biomedical Engineering. I am also interested in computer science, hoping to double major or minor in the field as well. On campus, I participate in engineering organizations such as Carolina Adapts Toys for Children and am also on both the club tennis and club badminton teams. In my free time, I enjoy playing sports and long-distance running. I am looking forward to working in Minneapolis this summer!
