Lake Street Solar Heading

MNIPL is solarizing Twin Cities neighborhoods with specific help for businesses and non-profits (including faith/spiritual communities) for whom financing is an obstacle.

How does this work? An investor builds and owns the solar array for the tax and depreciation credits. They lease the roof space from the small business and sell back the solar electricity at a discount over standard fossil-fuel electricity.

Small businesses and non-profits get lower electric costs. The investor gets a return. And the earth heals that much more.

For properties located in the Twin Cities, we have installation slots available through the Lake Street Solar program.

Lake Street Solar: Bringing Renewable Energy to the Twin Cities

Small businesses, non-profits, and congregations in the Twin Cities can get a rooftop solar array installed for absolutely no cost with guaranteed savings over current utility rates.

This program is through a partnership between MNIPL and Amber Naqvi, a local community-based investor. We have already completed installations at more than 20 local organizations (check out this this Star Tribune article about our work with Liberty Community Church) – your metro-area building could be next!

Program Summary:

  • Rooftop solar installation available to all small businesses and non-profits in the Twin Cities
  • $0 upfront cost
  • Investor manages all maintenance
  • 5%-10% lower rate (per kilowatt hour delivered) compared to Xcel's rates
  • Purchase the system at the end of the contract for a fraction of the original cost
  • Download this flier to learn more – and share with anyone you think might be interested!
  • If you're curious about the full terms of the contract, you can checkout sample contracts here

Our current round of funding will allow for about 30 projects, and the program will fill quickly! Interested in learning more about how your business, non-profit organization, or faith, spiritual or religious community can access this opportunity? Fill out the form below!
