Indigenous Rights & Climate Justice: A Jewish Opportunity to Rise & Repair

Last week, we partnered with Mount Zion, Temple Israel of Minneapolis, Jewish Community Action, and Rise & Repair to talk about how Jewish communities can support Indigenous rights and climate justice by getting involved with the Rise & Repair coalition during the 2024 Legislative Session.

Juventino Meza, J.D., Legislative Affairs Organizer at MNIPL, shared about Rise & Repair, a diverse alliance of people and organizations focused on legislative action to support Indigenous rights and promote climate justice. He talked about the successes the coalition saw in 2023 and what legislation Rise & Repair will be working on in 2024, including the specific bills that MNIPL and Rise & Repair will be advancing.

Beth Gendler, Executive Director of Jewish Community Action, Rabbi Ricky Kamil from Temple Israel, and Siana Goodwin, who is part of the Climate Action Group at Mount Zion, also talked about their commitment to this work and how they plan to be involved. It was a really exciting and intriguing conversation about how Jewish communities across multiple congregations can get together, track important bills, and commit to action at the Capitol this year.

Check out the recording of the conversation below! If you’re interested in getting more involved in this work, including being part of an informal group to engage Jewish communities and congregations, please contact Juventino Meza, J.D. at juve@mnipl.org.
